## What does «Start with StopNCII» govern?

Before anything else: StopNCII.org generates a hash of the image on your own device and shares only that hash with participating platforms, which then block matching uploads. The image never leaves your device and the process does not depend on this site. This is faster and broader than anything we can do, which is why it comes first on this page rather than last.

## What does «What we can do» govern?

We publish no user images, so there is rarely anything of yours hosted here. What we can do is act on our own pages: remove any link, description or sample that turns out to be connected to non-consensual material, and stop covering a service that is implicated. Write to us with the address where the material sits and, if you have it, the date you first saw it. We do not ask

you to send the image and you should not send it.

## What does «What the law gives you» govern?

Under section 162.1 of the Criminal Code of Canada, knowingly publishing, distributing, transmitting, selling, making available or advertising an intimate image without consent is an offence carrying up to ten years on indictment. Threatening to do so is a separate offence under 162.1(1.1). Where a commercial organisation mishandled your personal information, a complaint to

the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada is available under PIPEDA. For the criminal route, local police are the starting point.

## What does «What to keep» govern?

Screenshots with the address visible, the date, and any account names involved. Do not engage with whoever posted the material; a threat to publish is itself an offence and is worth reporting as one.

## What does «The form» govern?

Where the material is Exact addresses, one per line. Do not attach the image. When you first saw it Date, and the account name if you have it. How to reach you Email, and a name if you want to give one. I confirm I am the person depicted, or act on their behalf, and that I have not attached the image itself.

## What does «References» govern?

## What does «Questions readers send us» govern?

Should I send you the image?

## What does Canadian law say?

Regardless of the tool, the same prohibition applies to intimate imagery:

> «Publishing, distributing, making available or advertising an intimate image of a person without their consent is an offence.»

## Whom does «Report an intimate image» concern?
